Westfield Santa Anita “Laneway”

The Authentic Urban “Back-Street” Food Alley

Santa Anita finally connects its interior to its exterior in a seamless way for the consumer while creating a unique food destination for Millennials and Generation Z. Laneway became the central meeting “hub” for Santa Anita’s younger demographic with local Los Angeles celebrity “B” chefs populating the in-line environments with exclusive food offerings. Laneway transcended the previous Santa Anita “Flagship” renovation as the place to meet, eat, lounge, and be seen.

Partial Plan - “Laneway” Concept - “Before”

The “Laneway” redevelopment finally resolved the poor planning decisions of the past for Santa Anita by finally uniting and connecting the exterior Promenade environment with the newly renovated “flagship” interior.

The new environment was not only a concourse connection for the exterior to the interior, but a new central meeting “hub” for Millianeials and Generation Z. Laneway became the place to eat, relax, lounge, and be seen.

Simply defined with an “EAT” sign, Laneway’s entry portals @ the Promenade exterior and the renovation interior designate the food alley zone.

The Promenade entry portal- The white aluminum trellis element was used to identify the food alley zone and visually connect the exterior with the interior. It is also a complimentary aesthetic element of the previous interior renovation.

An extraordinary feature of the Laneway experience is its trend specific art installation. Designed and curated in the scale of a “Whitney Biennial” installation, it provides an incredible backdrop for the in-line food offerings and the perfect Instagram moment.

Laneway’s art installation is an interactional and occupiable space of trend specific elements designed specifically for Laneway.

Celebrity “B” chefs from Los Angeles rule the in-line food offerings at Laneway. Koreatown’s seafood sensation EMC is a main anchor at the center of the environment. Its bar, food preparation, and seating are on full display.

District specific Laneway furniture designs, (food crate seating, electrical wire-wheel tables, and planting) are balanced with the in-line tenant’s brand specific seating that permeate into the concourse space.

Our Laneway space is anchored by the Dim Sum sensation Din Tai Fung @ the mall interior connection.

It was an incredible honor to have the original Din Tai Fung “flagship” installation relocate to Santa Anita as part of the overall redevelopment.

Part of the beauty of Laneway is its authentic feel of being in an urban food alley environment where one can discover the perfect bowl of ramen.

The lines for Uncle Tetsu’s Japanese cheesecakes are legendary but definately worth the wait. It is one of the many “first-to-market” concepts of the Laneway food lineup.

Laneway’s connection to the interior is framed by the “flagship” Din Tai Fung and EMC’s Backhouse restaurant concept from Koreatown.
